Grandma and Linda go to Washington DC

You could see the Washington Monument and the Capital from the roof. They may look far away but they are within walking distance.

As you can see the apartment is full of Claudia's colorful art. I was impressed.

Conservatory

	On the first day we walked to the Conservatory, the Nation's Capital, and the National Gallery of Art, took the subway home and collapsed.

Smithsonian

	On the second day my niece and her family joined us from Kentucky. We began with a puppet show at the Smithsonian, then to the mall merry-go-round, Museum of American History and home again to collapse.
Mom wanted to see Julia's kitchen.	National Museum of American History	Larry in front of a Huey Helicopter like the one he flew in Vietnam. His company was named the Robin Hoods.

Family

	On the 3rd day we took the subway to Union Station, the Postal Museum, watched a concert on the waterfront and fireworks from our deck. We also enjoyed the newest member of the family, 5 month old David.

The only one missing was Tim who was taking a well deserved nap. And me of course but someone had to take the picture.

Mount Vernon

	On the 4th day we boarded the Potomac Spirit for a cruise to Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get there.On the right is Larry's condo. We stayed on the 6th floor. Great View!
George had a 16 sided barn, slaves, gardens & greenhouse, and several buildings used for spinning, blacksmithing etc.	George wrote "No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this..." He is right. Mount Vernon has great views everywhere you look. The land across the Potomac was purchased so it would look like it did in George's day.	The house seemed small to me, I think I was expecting something huge. It had 14 rooms and we saw the bed where he died. He had loud taste in colors and decorated the whole house except the bedroom.

White House

	On the 5th day we took the subway to The White House. We walked around to the back and then to the Daughters of the American Revolution to see the Quilts and Samplers. In many of the museums you had to have your belongings inspected and go through metal detectors. Lots of security measures everywhere.
	We then walked to the Lincoln Monument, met my brother and had lunch at an excellant Japanese Restaurant.
	Larry works in the red building on the left and walks to work every day. He would call when he reached the Tidal Basin to give us the Cherry Blossem report for the day.

	On the 6th day we took a walk around the neighborhood to view the flowers and the harbor. In the afternoon we went to Arlington National Cemetery, and Alexandria, one of the oldest cities in the area. It had cobblestone streets (unbelievably bumpy even riding in Larry's BMW) The homes were brick, shuttered and skinny.

Arlington

Arlington Cemetery is actually in the front yard of General Lee's Home which we toured. It is up on a high hill that overlooks DC.		It was a very long walk up to Lee's home but the scenes along the way and at the top were worth it. We also stopped at the graves of the JFK and his family.
	The last morning we toured the Tidal Basin to look at the cherry blossoms. It wasn't peak but many were in bloom. Thanks for traveling with us. We want to thank Larry and Claudia for being so generous and such fantastic hosts. We highly recommend them for your next stay in DC. THE END
